Bubble Gum Experiment

By Jamie Guillet ~ MK Publisher North Attleborough-Fall River, MA March 29, 2012

A fun experiment with the kiddos is to dissolve gumballs in water. Besides the fun of coloring the water, you can use this activity to teach your child about a number of things and create several mini experiments. We all know that kids love to ask "Why?" I think this is what makes experimenting so much fun for them. Here are just a few options of what you can do:

-Time how long it takes for all of the color coating to dissolve

-See if a darker color takes longer than a lighter color

-Experiment with hot and cold water to determine if the temperature will make the color dissolve faster or slower.

-Have them try making purple, orange, and/or green from primary colors (red + blue, red + yellow, blue + yellow)

-You may find that after the color coating is fully dissolved that the gumballs may float to the top, ask them why they think this might be.

Most of all just have fun & after the kids are in bed you can test out a little experiment of your own with bubble gum infused vodka if you like! :)
