July 2, 2015
The Roger Williams Park Zoo is gearing up for the summer season with the return of exciting new activities and exhibits that everyone will enjoy. The newest animals to join RWP Zoo’s family are the cheetahs that arrived in May. Some might remember the Zoo once had cheetahs on exhibit in the 1990’s up until 2008. Now these “cool cats” are back with the introduction of four young females, sisters that came all the way from the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Texas. The “girls” are getting acclimated to their new enclosure in the Fabric of Africa exhibit area, and will be out for Zoo visitors to see very soon.

Also returning this July, is Rock Spot Climbing’s four-sided rock wall. This fun and challenging attraction offers varying degrees of difficulty on each side, so everyone from a seasoned climber to a beginner can try. This year, rock climbers can purchase bundles for multiple climbs that can be redeemed throughout the season. Prices, in addition to Zoo admission, are $5 for 1 climb, $10 for 3 climbs and $20 for 8 climbs, and RWP Zoo members receive a $1 discount. Challengers must be age three or older to participate on the rock wall, which is available until August 31.

The other seasonal offerings at the Zoo, which include the Flutterby: Butterflies in Bloom special exhibit and Camel Rides, continue this month. This year is the last for the enchanting butterfly exhibit. Guests who enter will traverse through a beautifully landscaped greenhouse, where they are immersed among hundreds of free-flying North American butterfly species. The exhibit is $3 per person, in addition to Zoo admission.

The Camel Rides are another up-close animal experience for Zoo goers. Visitors can ride atop this majestic eight-foot-tall creature that is being lead along a track by a trained handler. This memorable experience is just $6 in addition to Zoo admission. RWP Zoo members also receive a $1 discount on Flutterby: Butterflies in Bloom, and Camel Rides that are available until Labor Day.

The Roger Williams Park Zoo is open during the summer season from 10am to 5pm, with the last admission at 4:30pm. Admission prices are $14.95 for adults, $9.95 for children (ages 3 – 12), and $12.95 for seniors (age 62+). Toddlers age two and under, and RWP Zoo members are admitted for free.
