Library Card Sign-Up Month: One Card, Endless Possibilities
September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, a national campaign launched in 1987 by the American Library Association (ALA) to ensure “every child obtains a library card and uses it." This year marks its 30th anniversary, making it a great time to celebrate the power of access, learning, and community, all unlocked by a single card.

Why a Library Card Matters
1. A Gateway to Learning & Literacy
Library cards are often considered the most important school supply. They provide children with access to books, homework help, reading programs, and summer reading clubs that help bridge the “summer slide." Yet, you don't need to be in school to learn the value of a library card.
2. Lifelong Learning for All
Beyond school-aged users, library cards provide access to a wide range of digital resources, including e-books, audiobooks, online courses, magazines, research databases, and career tools.
3. Resource Equity & Inclusion
Libraries are social equalizers, offering free access to technology, the internet, periodicals, and even nontraditional items like tools or musical instruments through “Library of Things” programs. Day passes to local aquariums, museums and more can be found at your local library!
4. Community Engagement & Creativity
Let's not forget all the fantastic programs offered to the community! From crafting, critters, help with taxes and MORE, your local library is filled with more than just books!
