The month of May promises warmer weather, sunshine, and animal encounters at Roger Williams Park Zoo. Daily giraffe feedings are available for Zoo guests ages 3 and older starting on May 28. Visitors can participate in the memorable experience by purchasing food from a booth near the covered giraffe viewing area during their visit. Like last year, participants pay $5 for three lettuce leaves that can be shared, and take turns feeding the giraffes. The feedings run daily from 11:30am – 12 noon.

The exciting Harbor Seal Encounters are back this year, as the stars of the show, seals Action and Bubba, enjoy their brand new enclosure. Not only do visitors get to feed the charismatic duo, but they also get an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of their exhibit. Through May, Harbor Seal Encounters are available on Saturdays and Sundays starting at 2pm. Guests can register online in advance, or purchase this experience at Zoo admissions the day of their visit. The encounters are $25 per person in addition to Zoo admission, and RWP Zoo members receive a $5 discount.

Another great activity for the whole family is the Birds from Down Under special exhibit that opened in April. This new experience allows guests of all ages to feed over 450 birds native to Australia. Guests will be immersed among the colorful creatures in the Zoo’s Greenhouse just before Hasbro’s Our Big Backyard for just $3 in addition to Zoo admission. RWP Zoo members will enjoy a $1 discount off each ticket to this seasonal offering.

A second seasonal offering, the camel rides, continues this month at the Zoo, a special treat for guests of any age. Visitors can take a ride on trained camels around a track near the Big Backyard. This year, the riding trail has been extended to allow for an even longer close-contact experience with these majestic creatures. Camel rides happen daily until September 7, and cost $6 per rider. Again, RWP Zoo members receive a $1 discount off each ticket.
